Fernando Torres transfer battle on?
A report in the Daily Mirror claims that Athletico Madrid could be about to transfer list their star player which in turn may well ignite a transfer battle between the leading clubs in Europe for the services of brilliant young Spanish striker Fernando Torres, 23.
The Red's have been linked in reports to the Spaniard for some time, however with United splashing the cash on up to three midfield players recently it is highly unlikely that Torres will be arriving at OT this summer. More likely that the player will end up at either Liverpool or Chelsea. Torres has recently spoken of his admiration for Liverpool added to whch the Merseyside Reds have yet to splash cash this summer which is reportedly causing a rift at boardroom level between the club's new owners and Rafa Benitez, but one big signing may well go a long way to resolving the apparent unrest at Anfield.
It is worth pointing out that the player's goal scoring record isn't exactly prolific, he's scored 82 goals in 212 league games and 14 from 42 at international level. My gut feeling is that United may well go for Huntelaar or Tevez, providing that they can broker a deal, there must be a huge question mark of the United's ability to finance any more big money moves this summer having commited some £50m already.
