Arsenal willing to sell stars' to 'no-threat' Man City, but not United?

Manchester United have been setting the early pace in the summer transfer window with the additions of Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David de Gea. The champions have also been linked with Arsenal's Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri; both have just one year left to run on their contracts. However, Arsene Wenger has gone on record saying there's no way Arsenal will sell Nasri to the Red Devils, the Frenchman said "One thing's for sure: we're not selling him to Manchester United". We are trying to extend his deal." That was the position at the beginning of June, but the reality is money talks, and Wenger knows that if he cannot persuade Nasri to sign a new deal then he will have no alternative but to listen to offers.

Arsenal supporters will no doubt be asking how their club has allowed this situation to come about, because surely the pair should have signed new deals some time ago and if they had the Gunners wouldn't find themselves in this position.

City can of course out-bid any of their rivals, including United and so they will be favourites to sign both players. According to the BBC Clichy is currently holding talks with City and so you wonder how long it will before Nasri sorts out his future and will he also be Eastlands bound? Perhaps Wenger doesn't see City as a major threat, clearly that is not the case with United....

From a United perspective, it is by no means certain that Nasri would be a total success - every new player represents something of a gamble - prior to signing him, who would have predicted that Veron would have failed so miserably at Old Trafford?

It's true the champions need to sign someone who can create and score goals from midfield; Nasri scored 20 goals last season - a healthy return for a striker never mind a midfield player. Nonetheless, there are question marks about Nasri's ability and willingness to defend when required...

Manchester City cannot realistically sign every United transfer target and talk of Nasri signing might yet turn out to be a double bluff by Fergie. United are still hoping to sign Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan or Modric from Spurs, it looks like being a very interesting transfer window and the guessing games look set to continue.

  4. It's obvious that shiteh's scouting set-up consists of attempting to buy the targets of Europe's best clubs. They (the arabs) obviously think that throwing money will get them the world's best but it's clearly obvious that those players who are after money head to the wastelands and those after trophies head to the clubs with a history of doing so.

  5. From an Arsenal fan - city can have Clichy. They will regret it in the same way as they have regretted buying Adebayor and Toure. 40 million for the pair! Nasri will be at Arsenal next season. As for United, yes you've spent a lot of money but can you honestly say your first 11 is actually better than last season?

  8. Shitty can buy anyone they want, provided they find a decent player that wants to join them, but they will never be bigger than United.

  10. You have to be crazy or stupid or both {a money grabbing whore} to choose City ahead of United!!!!

  12. United won a poor premier league last season, had Arsenal, Chelsea or 'joint 2nd place' City (on points) showed a little more consistency any of these other three clubs could have easily won the title last season. City showed in the FA Semi Final how much stronger they are than United now, City have a better squad, money to burn and are firmly on their way up. City not a threat... That's rich coming from our poor neighbours! If City finish below United next season I for one will be shocked.

  13. Arsenal fan commenting in peace!

If the rumors are true that City are offering £20 million for Nasri, in the last year of his contract remember, that's bloody good business in my eyes and a figure SAF will have to match. And even if he does, Wenger will be adamant not to sell to you and you'll never be able to challenge City when it comes to wages anyway.

Just like Rooney, money talks with Nasri, unfortunately. We took advantage of that when we bought him from Marseilles and now we're getting bitten in the backside. I'd be willing to bet City will be his destination. It would suck to lose him but unlike Fabregas, he's not irreplaceable.

  15. Maybe players just want to go there more?

To be honest, though, given their midfield and ours, they'd stand more chance of regular first team football here.

  16. I'm surprised that there are this many comments from Stretford Utd fans - I never realised so many of you could read!! Good to see that the one true Manchester club are still winding you up though. Get used to it too guys, it's the way it's going to be for years to come, so be ready to creep back into the woodwork now!!

Everydody knows money aint gonna buy trophies just massive eagos, love to speak to city fan who still lives in real world.

  18. united have been saving there money this must be the 80 million they got for Ronald? Fergie must see value in the market? or maybe you need to buy better players? still let the bidding begin this is one city will win hands down

    ReplyDelete
  19. united are top because they spent big money in the past so why do people say you cant buy success united have done it for years the wheel will turn for sure

    ReplyDelete
  20. nasri or schnider, please theres no way man united are even considering bidding for nasri, just a smoke screen so city buy him and pack him in to a midfield full of talent but hav'ent got no room to move,iv'e got an idea BUY SOME DEFENDERS.

  21. Perhaps these players want to come to a club with an exciting future rather than a gradual decline. To suggest that City are just poaching players that other top clubs want is ludicrous. If that was the case, every club could be accused of that. It is a very exciting time to be a City fan right now and you rags know it.

  22. Just a few answers to comments above, I don't now any city fan saying we are going to win anything, I think we will be hard pushed to keep or CL spot and have a decent run in it this year, consolidation this year for me. The comments about us signing or trying to sign everybody are untrue I think in stark contrast to last few windows we are obviously taking care this time.
As to your signings with the exception of Phil Jones who looked very poor in U21's, unlike Smalling who was superb!! all look good if you can get Modric that would be a very good signing.
As ever lets wait and see next season.

  23. Do reds really still think we're no threat to them? Yaya, Tevez, Silva, Balotelli et al and the joint best defence last season plus any decent players we get this summer-all this and we're still lckle citeh? Wake up boys, I'm not saying we'll definitely win the league but we've a good a chance as anyone.
And don't churn that players only join us for money routine. If you do, we just respond with the Rooney 'contract improvement' last season. Money talks everywhere.

  24. wow an exciting comment from a city fan totaly agree with everything you say, everybody has targets and i hope city sighn who they go after, realistically being a united fan i want to play competative games against competative teams and like you hope we can make an impact into barcas dominancy, will be hard but will get there eventually, winning legue would be nice but theres no better feeling than when the boys lifted the champions league triphy.

  30. Im a City fan an for a start the total immaturity of some people is pathetic.

Firstly anyone who thinks its a smoke screen that fergie is interested in Nasri is silly, you honestly think Mancini just fell for this trick? lets be real all those managers know whats going on with players all over the world.

People are also saying we are chasing players just because other top clubs are, I think your right for the most part and to be honest I don't think there is anything wrong with that. If a player is good enough for utd then I will have him at City all day long.

Someone also said why would he choose City over utd, I agree again in a lot of ways who wouldn't want to play for a club like Utd, at the same time though we are not talking about a City of 5 years ago, these players can come to City with the same chances they will win trophies with us as they would with man u.

It isnt to do with money is it either if he chooses us over utd, utd pay as much as we do.

Last thing Nasri will never ever ever ever be able to fill Scholes boots, sorry the press saying that has been pissing me off.

  31. Haha the Tommy Tick-Tocks are really deluded if they are still clutching at straws and claiming they will stay at the helm forever and City aren't a threat.
The writing is so on the wall you can see it from space!!

United dominated in the late sixties then went down in the seventies. Liverpool dominated for years and it seemed unthinkable that they would be crap one day, but it happened.

    Football changes fast.

United have an ageing manager who has alarmingly spunked the Ocean Finance consolidation loan on some very ordinary players this summer.

They've been very big and the fall is going to be hard for them, especially as City fans will be pissing themselves laughing all the way.

  32. Martin from Manchester living in Birmingham - i don't like these pure anonymous comments.
Some of these comments are laughable. Interesting that City have distanced themselves from this Nasri story.
I think we have been linked with every player going, whilst not actually signing anyone until ? Clichy maybe first at a princely - should i say Sheikhly £7m allegedly.
I am not really interested in all these goings on till we actually sign them up. Well done to United for signing who they have. Only the keeper in my view is worth it. We don't need one.
I am looking forward to competitive matches with you. All to few of those in my 35 years of going to City.
As to the person who says that we have no history that is just rubbish. It's not as big or as recent as yours that is all.
As to how about buying some defenders - uhmmm the tightest defence and the goalkeeper who won the golden gloves for most clean sheets. Yep we need to improve.

  33. City have no heart, where are your local players if you are "the team from Manchester" as you continuously claim. As soon as the money came u got rid of all them. U play shit negative tactics with low scoring unexciting matches, that's why u have decent defensive record. Playin yay a in the hole-very expansive indeed,It was a really masterful move that fa cup goal at OT. especially with ur "box to box" midfield of Barry de Jong etc. Boring football from citeh. Just like when Chelsea first got taken over-consolidate with boring football, then turn up second best to united when u try play expansively. Bring on the new season

  34. Its great reading all the comments from United fans who are all obviously under 30. They don't rememeber being relegated. They think United have always been a great club and don't realise that as a club they were just lucky. United are not great club like Liverpool.

United bought there success using Champ and prem league money and Sky Tv money. They just happened to be the best club when the money came along and used it to continue to buy success.

United, just lucky but your luck is about to run out

  35. United have made shit signings this season? Obviously u don't mean de gea, so I Take it u mean young and jones..?? Jones is the future of england as so many ex pros have said, but I suppose u no better with ur vast experience of jumpers for goal posts, plus he's ready to play now at such a young age. That brings me to Ashley-not the cunt cole but young-he's 8th in prem table of assists to game ratio after a few mere legends of the prem such as Henry king Eric beck ham giggs cesc di canio bergkamp-yeah he must be fucking average...idiots

    ReplyDelete
  36. united have dominated for about 20 years now its not going to change they have the best young players by far so why would They suddenly go down hill? its not gunna happen, city fans are just dreamers

  40. c'mon, Veron joined MU from the Serie A, he had no idea about the EPL! But Nasri have proved he is a good palyer, well his form switches off to the end of the campaign, so i agree its a risk, and he is not the best defender, we need a midfielder who can defend, throw in some hard tackles when needed, Nasri ain't that guy or Modric or Sneijder!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Nasri is going to get he wants..... Money.. high level football game in Champions league!!! hahaha

Unless he just want money, he will surely stay at Arsenal if the price is right.

he can forget Champions league finals

  42. the funny thing abt some teams are.... even they spend money.. they can't get success.

Honestly, every team is trying to buy the best player that can fit the team and fit in the budgets.

Some teams just don't have the money, so they just try to buy the players that fits into the budget.

  50. United have such tradition and such cache. we deservedly won the league last year (and should have won it by more than we did) - yet there is something in the air i don't like. The way BARCA beat us was an important moment. There is a gulf. We know that. But the United of old would have looked at adding real quality to regroup and be the best. I am not clear that £50million on young, jones and d'gea allows us to take any credible step forward. I hate to admit this but i think nasri will go to city as they are showing far more ambition to the the best in europe. i never thought id say that but ...........

    ReplyDelete
  51. There is a gulf between United and Barca - but no one is close to touching Barca so United are not unique in this respect and any honest fan would agree. Blinkered City and Liverpool fans can go and on about how Barca have beaten United but the fact remains at least we are getting to the final...

As for Nasri, personally, I couldn't care less where he goes, because I don't see him as the solution.
