Fergie's Transfer Target List: #3 Wesley Sneijder...

It remains to be seen who Ferguson will buy this summer - according to the manager the transfer market is inflated and there's little or no value. Having seemingly lost out in the race to sign Joe Cole - who is available on a free transfer (so much for no value) United are now being linked with a £20m move for Wesley Sneijder.

The Inter Milan star left Real Madrid 12 months ago for just 15million Euros. The Dutch ace went on to win the Champions League plus an historic league and cup double under Jose Mourinho.

It seems unlikely in the extreme that Sneijder will follow Mourinho and return to Real Madrid. The question is, would Sneijder fancy moving to Manchester? What could United offer the Dutchman that he hasn't already got in Milan? Could United even afford Sneijder?

Sneijder has been linked to United several times over the last few seasons, but so far nothing has come of it.

Verdict: Unlikely.

  2. Believe me. We wont buy any player of top calibre. We will only sign youngster. If they go on to prove to be good, then we are lucky. If not, lets pray and hope for the best.

  3. I'd love Sneijder at Old Trafford. Think hes a fantastic player and we should have had him as part of the Ronaldo deal.
Is it just me or does £20m sound a bit low? I mean when you see Silva is likely to cost £28m then £20m for Sneijder would be a good price. I would expect Inter to be looking for more profit than that.

At the very least I had hoped Fergie would flog off some of the dead wood like Anderson and Berbatov to get one decent player.

  4. Dave,

To be totally honest, I think this latest story should be filed under "tabloid kite flying", because clearly we have no money to spend...

Sneijder has been linked to us since 2008. I was told he was definitely on Fergie's radar by a very good source, but that was two years ago...

I totally agree with you though, we should have snapped him up as part of the Ronaldo deal, or at very least we should have asked for first option to negotiate. The fact that Fergie didn't make any kind of move is bordering on a criminal act IMO.

It could be argued that Fergie is paying the price for poor timing where Carrick and Berabtov is concerned. HE could have signed them both (if he'd made his move earlier they were up for grabs for a fraction of what we ended up paying. Carrick (£2.75m) was sold to Spurs from West Ham and Berbatov (£10.9m) to Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen.

I can't see United getting much for Anderson, Carrick of Berbatov. I reckon we'd be lucky to net £24m for the trio combined.
