Why Fergie needs to sign a new striker....

There's no denying that the Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez partnership has proven the critics wrong, they said they were too similar and that it was unlikely to work, but so far, it has worked and well.

However, as we saw against Arsenal at the weekend, sometimes you need to change things and there's no denying that the introduction of Louis Saha made a difference and it led to United taking that second half lead, only for it to be tossed away at the death.

On Saturday it was Tevez who was replaced by Saha, the Frenchman is definitely good enough to hold down a regular place in the side if he's fit, and if the manager gives him a fair chance, but you cannot help but feel that Fergie has earmarked the former Fulham striker down to play a supporting role from the bench for the remainder of the season.

The question is, when the games come thick and fast and there's no time to recover from injuries - which seem to affect Saha almost all of the time - what happens then, with United only having three players for effectively two positions?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to sadly call it a day due to injury and of course Rossi was sold in the summer.

United fans and the manager are desperately hoping to win the league and the Champions League again this season, for that to happen the manager must surely try to sign a top striker in January. My own personal choices would include Kenwyne Jones from Sunderland, he's not cup-tied and would give the manager a different option.

IF anyone else has a suggestion for a new striker, then let's hear about it.

  8. For something different:
Benzema - 19yr old striker playing great for a Lyon team that were off form, great technique, huge physique, seems to have a fantastic shot

  9. Kenwyne jones? Bloody Hell lets get Marcus Bent and Emile Heskey whilst we are at it. None of them good enough for United.

  10. Don't write off Jones. Not so long ago United fans were calling Drogba 'dog****', but he proved them all wrong.

Now those who have an eye for a player are likening Jones to Drogba.

Sven really rates him, as do many others including Keano.

  13. Kenwyne Jones is a huge prospect. I don't think he's quite got the quickness of Drogba, but he's a good contrast to Tevez and Saha, and might be a useful Mutt and Jeff partner for Wazza against the more physical teams. God knows, Keano desperately needs the likes of Phil Bardsley, Craig Cathcart, Jonny Evans and Lee Martin to stay in the premiership, so surely something could be arranged. I can't see Alves, Anelka, Huntelaar, Benzema or Berbatov being worth the huge amount of dosh they'll cost, and not a one will be content to ride the bench.

  14. Why not just go to Merseyside and eat humble pie? Let's get Crouch! He appears stressed out about being on the bench..

  16. I would much rather leave the decision to Mr. Ferguson, with his experience and with his resources at United, I am certain he can find this striker, maybe if he was given the money, he would go out and bid for who he had in mind as well, in the fashion of Erikson. That is our problem, coming up with the money, I am certain if and when we get that elusive replacement for Vannistelrooy, we will not have to rely on the goal-scoring abilities of Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez, thereby reducing the pressure on them and eliciting better and better performances.
