United ready to move for Gudjohnsen?

According to the media United could be about to firm up their interest in Eidur Gudjohnsen now that Thierry Henry has rendered the Icelandic striker effectively surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp.

United are of course in desperate need of a top class reliable striker as Louis Saha, AKA man in bandages, was seemingly almost constantly injured last season. The Reds did not replace Ruud Van Nistelrooy last summer when he moved on to Real Madrid and that left United scratching around in the January transfer window like a second-rate club looking for a short term replacement.

The word is that once Alan Smith has been off-loaded United will then try to broker a deal to sign the former Chelsea and Bolton striker. Smith is being linked several second tier clubs including the likes of Newcastle, 'Boro, Pompey and Spurs. Don't rule out Man City chancing their arm with a bid, if and when Thaksin Shinawatra's much vaunted cash stash turns up.
