Beckham makes gutter press eat their words...

England took on Estonia in Tallinn last night needing to win to keep alive any hopes of qualifying for the European Championship finals in 2008. It finished up 3-0 to the Ingerlund and once again the Three Lions and Steve McClaren had David Beckham to thank for the victory, as the former skipper laid on second half goals for Peter Crouch and Michael Owen, before that Joe Cole gave the visitors the lead on 36 minutes when he turned and volleyed a Crouch headed flick on from a throw-in - it was the only genuine quality moment of a fairly eventless first half.

Throughout most of the opening period there was concerns that Beckham would have to be replaced after the Madrid star twisted his left ankle, but he re-appeared after the break and England can be thankful that he did so, because once again he turned on the style delivering the killer balls that defenders dread to set-up this much needed confidence boosting victory.

Following England's draw with Brazil last week, Steve McClaren stated that Beckham is the best right sided player in the world, that is debatable, but what isn't in question is his ability to find a man when it really matters.

As I sat watching this game I'm sure that I'm not the only one who was thinking 'how could McClaren have dropped Beckham?' Many of our clueless press boys backed the decision to oust the former skipper, their collective revisionist views on Beckham the decision to drop him will no doubt make interesting reading.

  1. I think that Beckham always deserved a place, but his performances need to be put into perspective. He did this against Estonia and Brazil in a friendley. I want to see this against russia and croatio.

  2. Always remember to put these performances in perspective. These performances are against Estonia and Brazil in a friendley, where the tackles arent flying in. I want to see him play well against Russia and Croatia.
